This spindle failed from bearing contamination of the front and rear bearings. This is not uncommon for a 60,000 rpm spindle that has run in production for many years. The contamination could be from an outside source or it may be the bearing cages breaking down as they reach the end of their life expectancy.
We replaced the bearings, adjusted preload, balanced, assembled and broke in the spindle. The spindle was then thoroughly checked in our QC department before being shipped back to the customer.

The rear bearing seized in this Jager spindle causing damage to the spindle housing. The front housing bore was also over sized. Northland Tool ground plate ground both housing bores to bring them back to the proper fits for the bearings. We also rebuilt the tool change system bringing the tool retention force back to specification.
