    10,000 rpm

    Grease lubricated

The main cause of failure for this spindle was rear bearing failure. When the rear bearing failed the encoder sensor was damaged. The 40 taper had run out and needed a kiss grind. The drawbar was worn where the belleville washers sit and needed to be reconditioned to insure proper drawbar actuation.

Northland Tool replaced the sensor, kiss ground the taper , reworked the drawbar and rebuilt the spindle. During the installation process we stayed in close contact with the installation personnel to make sure everything went smoothly.

    12,000 rpm

Our customer complained of premature spindle failure (less than 1 year running time). We found the spindle had been contaminated from the front with liquid coolant. We reworked the contamination prevention characteristics and gave advice on how to prevent contamination.

    6000 rpm

Spindle was crashed, shaft nose was cracked, rotor came loose and rubbed out on rear housing.  Rear housing was egged shaped.  The taper had 20+ microns of runout.
Northland Tool & Electronics replaced the bearings, ground/plate/ground the rear housing and 50 taper.  Kiss ground the front journal and shoulders.  Welded and machined the cracks in shaft nose.

Spindle taper was below gage line and had run out. The front bearings had failed. We brought the taper back to specification with a grind plate grind and reassembled the spindle.

This spindle was crashed causing the front labyrinths to friction weld together. The taper and front bearing journal had run out. We manufactured replacement labyrinth parts and ground plate ground the taper and front bearing journal.
