This Pibo Multi Spindle Repair is a 4K RPM internal gear belt driven spindle. This spindle has a tap tool and is used to tap holes. We replaced the bearings, tested the HSK taper and shaft and rebuilt the spindle. This spindle has manual grippers.

Our customer has an extensive installation of Pibo Multi spindles. A common cause of failure for this type of spindle is coolant contamination. To protect the spindle from this we evaluate the condition of the labyrinth system on the front end of the shaft systems. The spindle repairs often require a rework or replacement of these parts in order to maximize the contamination prevention properties of this system. Our customer contacted Northland Tool to discuss the repair of their Pibo Multi spindle heads. They were using the OEM in Europe for spindle repair but the deliveries were in excess of 6 to 8 weeks and the pricing was near the cost of a replacement spindle system. When we received their first spindle system for evaluation we reviewed the repair options with them, the cost and lead times they can expect from Northland Tool.
We had to repair some major damage to the aluminum housings. The labyrinth systems for the front of the spindles were worn and not functioning to their full capacity. This let coolant contamination enter through the front and ruin the front bearings.
We repaired the damage and rebuilt the spindle which was shipped 2 weeks after we received approval. The cost of the repair was less than 50% of the price they had been paying the OEM.
