Oil Bearing OD Grinding Spindle

The common cause of failure to these spindles is contamination in the lubricating oil. The contamination wears the shaft and bearing which eventually causes a breakdown in the oil film layer that supports the shaft. The radial and axial force that the shaft is subjected to during the grinding process causes the shaft to contact the ID of the bearing.  The next step is spindle failure.

We grind plate grind the shaft to bring it to size and have the proper surface finish. We rework the bearing ID and finish it with a hand scraping process. The hand scraping is done by our technician who has over 20 years experience with spindle bearing re-manufacture. This is an art form that should only be done by experienced experts. If it is done wrong permanent damage can be caused to the bearing ID. Replacement parts are not always available and re-manufacture of the bearings is costly.
