Blohm flat and profile grinding machines have been developed in Germany since 1924. Northland Tool & Electronics carries on their tradition of quality and precision with our Blohm spindle repair process. We are one of the few spindle rebuilders in the United States that performs the majority of our grinding work on site. This gives us the unique advantage of having hands on experience with Blohm spindles and knowing what is needed in their repair so they perform to our customers expectations. Some of the Blohm spindles we rebuild have been in the field so long that they require replacement of worn parts that we produce in our machine shop that is set up specifically for the production of replacement spindle parts.

Repair History

Blohm Spindle Repair
Grease lubrication

This spindle failed due to coolant contamination. The grease was washed away from the front bearings causing them to fail. We reviewed steps that can be taken to prevent this type of failure with our customer. The spindle had run for a significant amount of time in the machine so it was decided that the failure was not a design flaw. We will monitor the spindles performance in the future to see if a design change to prevent contamination is warranted.
