Definition: a metric unit of length equal to one millionth of a meter

Examples:

The wavelength of red light is a little shorter than a micron
  1. About 400 microns will fit inside an average size period in a sentence
  2. A micron is 1/25,000th of an inch.
  3. A human hair is about 150 microns wide
  4. If the measurement from coast to coast of United States represents 1 inch then 1 micron represents 624 feet from shore

Why is this important to know? The tolerance we use for bearing fits is measured on the micron scale. When we repair your spindle it is important to make sure your spindle meets or exceeds these specifications or the spindle repair could suffer premature failure.

This is also why we have our grinding department for our grinding needs. Other spindle repair companies use outside vendors exclusively for their grinding needs. It is extremely hard to control quality and delivery using outside vendors.
