SPINDLE REPAIR- GRINDING

NTE repairs grinding spindles that are rated from 300 to 150,000 rpm. Including:

Each grinding spindle NTE repairs is disassembled and checked thoroughly before quote. We discuss, whenever possible, the application and environment the spindle is used in. Gathering this information allows us to cater the repair to our customer’s individual circumstances. We have several accounts that we have shown a drastic reduction in spindle repair expenditures. We do this by learning our customer’s process and recommending courses of action that will prolong spindle life.

Important Points:

Lubrication: Spindle users often overlook the importance of grinding spindle lubrication. To much lubrication and your bearings will plow through the oil causing excessive heat and possible failure. To little lubrication and the balls contact the raceways causing brinelling. This causes vibration and premature bearing failure. We are trained in all forms of lubrication, oil mist, oil injection, grease, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic.

Balance: NTE component and/or assembly balances all spindles that we repair. A spindle with high imbalance can cause increased wheel wear, shorter bearing life and poor part quality. NTE meets and exceeds rigid balance standards achieving optimum performance levels for your spindle. NTE can also balance your tooling, in assembly, preventing it from influencing spindle life and part quality.

Each of the following is inspected before quote:

Taper / tooling interface: Poor tooling contact from wear and damage is one of the major causes of poor part quality and reduced tool life. NTE inspects percentage of contact, run out and gauge line. If any of these fall outside acceptable specifications the part is sent to our grinding department for repair evaluation.

Contamination: One of the leading causes of bearing failure! When contamination is present during the initial inspection, our technicians determine where it entered the spindle and recommend possible steps for preventing future contamination.

Bearings: NTE uses only the highest quality bearings in our repairs. After discussing the application with you we will use the best bearings for your individual circumstances.

Dimensional check: All critical areas of the shaft, housing, spacers and shoulders are checked for size and run out.

Electrical: Whenever possible all sensors and drive components are checked electrically for defects.

After these checks are made repair recommendations are estimated and described in the quote to our customers. NTE will contact our customers to explain our findings and review the repair procedure.
