Spindle came in with contaminated front bearings. We kiss ground the taper, face and the front bearing shoulder. We then assembled the spindle with a new inproseal, test ran and balanced.
If the customer just did a bearing replacement for a quick and easy repair the tooling interface would have run out and they would have risked early bearing failure due to the bad bearing shoulder. This is one advantage to having a grinding department in our facility. Most of our competition would not have fixed the bearing shoulder because they do not have the equipment in house to do so.
