Hardinge TT-65 Spindle Repair

Hardinge TT-65 Spindle Rebuild

The surface of the shaft that the pulley rides on was fretted undersized from years of use. We ground plate ground this surface to bring it back to OEM specs and give the pulley firm contact with the shaft. This will eliminate future fretting due to loose interfaces.

Possible cause of failure:

  • Front and rear bearing failure from contamination
  • Front cover gasket is worn
  • Cages in the bearings were melted
  • Drive pulley ID is scored and egged -45 to -90

Repair action:

  • Clean, inspect overall dimensions
  • Replace bearings
  • Replace front cover gasket
  • Grind, chrome plate and finish grind the pulley ID
  • Adjust preload, balance, assemble and break in
  • Final quality control inspection
