HSD 919 Spindle Repair

HSD 919 Spindle Rebuild

This spindle was taken out of service after the operator noticed a change in the sound of the spindle. Wood contamination had worn down the front labyrinth and allowed wood dust into the bearings. We reconditioned the front labyrinth nut to achieve optimum contamination prevention. This is one of the steps that not all spindle rebuilders do and it could mean the difference between regular failures and a spindle that can perform better than when it was new.

Possible cause of failure:

  • Front bearings had high spike energy during testing
  • Front bearings were contaminated with wood dust
  • Cooling fan does not work

Recommended action:

  • Clean, inspect overall dimensions
  • Replace bearings
  • Replace cooling fan
  • Machine front housing nut labyrinth
  • Adjust preload, balance, assemble and break in
  • Final quality control inspection
