Johnford SVA-24 Spindle Failure Coolant Contamination



CHALLENGE

Possible cause of failure: Spindle was siezed Rear bearings failed from coolant contamination. Rear of the spindle was covered with sticky coolant. Taper is worn and slightly bell mouthed.

SOLUTION

Recommended action: Clean, inspect overall dimensions. Kiss grind the taper Upgrade bearings with Sealed bearings, bellevilles, screws and orings. Adjust preload, balance, assemble and break in. Final quality control inspection.
