This Mitsui grinding spindle started to leave chatter marks on the parts it was grinding. Over time the chatter increased to the point that the spindle needed to be rebuilt. This is what we found after we broke down the spindle and evaluated it.
Possible cause of failure:
Front bearing’s were contaminated.
Drive coupling was broken and taped together incoming.
Front nut was loose incoming.
Clean, inspect overall dimensions.
Replace drive coupling.
Adjust preload, balance, assemble and break in. Final quality control inspection.
