Miyano BNC-34C Spindle Repair

We have modified these Miyano spindles to incorporate an air purge to reduce the amount of contamination that is allowed into the spindle. This will increase the life of the spindle considerably. We try to keep our customers informed of why their spindle failed and suggest corrective actions to improve their spindle life. Sometimes that is as easy as installing an air purge. In some cases we need to review the customers process with them and visit the facility to decide on the best repair options for their particular situation.

CHALLENGE

This Miyano BNC-34C spindle was sent in for a full breakdown and evaluation. Upon inspection, we noted that there was liquid contamination throughout the spindle. The front bearings showed signs of high heat damage. Lastly, the cogged pulley was very worn and the aluminum pulley was damaged. No dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.

SOLUTION

The following actions were performed on this Okuma MC-V4020 spindle:

Clean, inspect overall dimensions
Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
Replace timing pulley
Replace belt pulley

RESULT

After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
