OKK HM50S Spindle Repair
The OKK HM50S is a large CNC horizontal machining center that comes equipped with a built in pallet changer. It also comes fitted with this grease lubricated and stator driven spindle capable of running up to 10,000 RPM.
This OKK HM50S spindle was difficult to turn by hand when it arrived at Northland Tool. During the disassembly of the spindle we noted that there was rust underneath the front cover. After we completed our evaluation, we recorded that the front quad set of bearings were contaminated with a brown particulate and rust. Lastly, front bearing journal had two bands of wear but there was no coinciding damage on the spacer.
The following actions were performed on this OKK HM50S spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, bolts, o-rings, and bellevilles
- Grind, plate, grind (GPG) the front bearing journal
After reassembly of all components and adjusting bearing preload, we put the spindle through a rigorous break-in and testing procedure to make sure it passes our final quality inspection.
This spindle passed our final quality inspection and was returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
