SKF 18SB1037 Rebuild With Tight Run Out Specifications

Possible cause of failure: Catastrophic failure of front roller bearing likely due to friction from excessive lubrication. Multiple types of grease found throughout the spindle, and the grease was not contained to rolling elements. Customer indicated that front roller preload must not allow more than .0002'' axial movement @1000lbs vertical pressure. Front 90mm shaft pilot OD undersized -12/-15µ with runout of 4/5µ, customer stated that this is not significant.

Recommended action: Clean, inspect overall dimensions. Replace bearings, screws, drive coupling bushings, grease fittings & dust covers. Adjust roller preload per customer spec, balance, assemble and break in. Final quality control inspection.
