Everite EG618 Spindle Repair

Everite EG618 Spindle Repair

The Everite EG618 is a grinding spindle that is grease lubricated and belt driven capable of running up to 3,000RPM.

CHALLENGE

Our customer sent in this Everite EG618 spindle for repair.  Once the spindle arrived at Northland Tool we completed a full disassembly and evaluation.

This is what we found:

  • Spindle rotated freely but the bearings felt and sounded worn when spun by hand
  • Front and rear bearings were contaminated with a brown particulate (Pic 1)
  • The roller bearing fretted against the housing and now it is too loose of a fit (Pic 2)
  • Front OD taper had high run out and was visibly worn

SOLUTION

The following actions were performed on this Everite EG618 spindle:

  • Replace bolts, bearings, and wear items
  • Grind-Plate-Grind (GPG) front OD taper due to high run out
  • GPG front housing due to over sizing

RESULT

After reassembly of all components and adjusting bearing preload this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
