Belt driven Grease lubricated Grinding spindle
The cause of failure to this spindle was destruction of the rear bearings. Our evaluation found that the belt tension was to high and the forces exceeded the bearings radial load capacity. We rebuilt the spindle and visited this customer to review proper installation procedures. The installation technician was unaware that setting the proper belt tension was important. We instructed him how to set it and discussed several other items that could be addressed to increase the life of their spindles.
