YCM NSV 106AS Spindle Repair

The YCM NSV 106AS is an ultra high performance vertical machining center.  It comes fitted with this oil mist lubricated and coupling driven spindle capable of running up to 15,000 rpm.

CHALLENGE

This YCM NSV 106AS spindle had bearings that sounded worn when spun by hand incoming.  During our incoming inspection we noted that the pull force and taper runout were both good.  While performing the breakdown of the spindle, we were surprised to note that the spindle interior was very clean and the bearings showed no signs of contamination.  The actuator functioned correctly and the drawbar movement was also good.  It was also noted that the gripper assembly and double wound spring were both in good shape and will be reused.  There were no dimensional deviations on any critical surfaces for this repair.

SOLUTION

The following actions were performed on this YCM NSV 106AS spindle:

• Clean, inspect overall dimensions
• Replace bearings, o-rings, seals, and assembly screws

RESULT

After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
