Brother TC-S2A-0 Spindle Repair
The Brother TC-S2A-0 is a compact vertical machining center with high production capabilites. Because of its standard 10,000 rpm spindle and high feed rates it can keep up with the fastest machines.
This Brother TC-S2A-0 spindle was seized when it arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics and a tool was stuck in the taper. Upon disassembly it was found that the o-ring on the front of the drawbar was broken. Both front bearings #1 & #2 failed (#2 cage was destroyed). Bearings #3 & #4 were contaminated and worn. The tooling taper ID was very worn with poor tool contact & excessive runout measuring >8µ. Shaft taper cam angle (gripper ball pocket) was very pitted and needed to be addressed. We tested the drawbar and it actuated successfully.
The following actions were performed on this Okuma MC-V4020 spindle:
- Clean all parts of the spindle
- Replace all bolts, o-rings, and bellevilles
- Replace gripper balls
- Replace bearings
- Kiss grind tooling taper ID
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
