Brother R650X1 Spindle Repair
The Brother R650X1 is a compact CNC vertical machining center. It comes equipped with a grease lubricated and coupling driven spindle capable of running up to 10,000 rpm.
This Brother R650X1 spindle was provided to us as a shaft, bearings, and drawbar assembly. Upon inspection, we noted that the tooling taper ID had damage at the large diameter from a possible crash. The grease in the bearings was slightly degraded and the bearings felt rough when rotated by hand. The drawbar assembly also had some oily contamination. No other significant dimensional deviations were noted (bearing journals/shoulders, housing bores).
The following actions were performed on this Brother R650X1 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Grind, chrome plate, and finish grind the tooling taper ID
- Replace ceramic bearings, gripper balls, o-rings, and assembly screws
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
