Gamfior E13833 Spindle Repair

The Gamfior E13833 spindle is oil mist lubricated and equipped with a built in spindle motor. It is capable of running up to 24,000 rpm and has a HSK tooling taper.

CHALLENGE

Our customer was having continuous failures on this type of spindle in their plant. The spindles were only lasting 2 to 3 months between repairs from the previous vendor. They sent us this Gamfior E13833 spindle to be broken down and evaluated to extend the life of their spindles. Upon inspection, we found a catastrophic failure of the #2 bearing. The bearing may have failed from a piece of debris from the casting when they installed or the oil supply line was contaminated. The #1 bearing was contaminated with debris from the #2 bearing failure. Lastly, the thermistor from the field is passing all tests, but the wire to the connector was disconnected. No dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.

SOLUTION

The following actions were performed on this Gamfior E13833 spindle:

Clean, inspect overall dimensions
Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
Replace thermistor wiring to connector

RESULT

After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty. The detailed cause of failure reports and the expert technical advice that Northland Tool provides is bar none the best I have ever seen. We struggled to keep two of our large our milling spindles running for longer than 6 to 12 months.
