The GMN TS125CGX400 is a spindle that is grease lubricated and coupling driven capable of running up to 4,700RPM.
CHALLENGE
Our customer sent in this GMN TS125CGX400 spindle for repair. Once the spindle arrived at Northland Tool we completed a full disassembly and evaluation.
This is what we found:
- Spindle rotated freely but bearings felt worn when spun by hand
- Shaft had rub out damage on nose
- Bolt broke off in rear of shaft during disassembly
- There was no grease left in any of the bearings due to coolant contamination (Pic 1)
- Front cover showed signs of high heat and had some rub out damage as well
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this GMN TS125CGX400 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bolts, o-rings, and bearings
- Machine out broken bolt from rear of shaft
- Skim rub out damage to nose of shaft and front cover
RESULT
After reassembly of all components and adjusting bearing preload this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
