GMN TS70CX115 Spindle Repair
GMN is a well known spindle manufacturer that makes many different spindles for a variety of applications. This GMN TS70CX115 is out of a Walter Power 400 tool grinding machine. The spindle is grease-lubricated and runs at up to 3,500 RPM.
This GMN TS70CX115 spindle arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics with a large amount of shaft endplay. Upon disassembly it was found that the bearings were heavily contaminated with black sludge, most likely belt debris. The critical dimensions such as bearing journals, bearing shoulders, housing, and tapers were measured. It was found that the housing was worn and had 10μm runout and both OD tapers also had 10μm runout. No other dimensional deviations were found.
The following actions were performed on this GMN TS70CX115 spindle:
- Clean all parts of the spindle
- Replace all bolts and o-rings
- Replace bearings
- Grind-Plate-Grind (GPG) rear housing
- GPG both OD tapers
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
