Turning Center Spindle Repair & Rebuild Services
YOUR SOURCE FOR PRECISION TURNING CENTER SPINDLE REPAIR & DIAGNOSTICS
Turning center spindles endure heavy radial loads, constant direction changes, and high torque cutting that wear down the spindle and its components over time. Northland Tool restores accuracy, rigidity, and surface finish in horizontal, vertical, and multi-axis turning centers, including complex spindle assemblies that general repair shops are not equipped to handle. We back every turning center spindle repair with our 1-Year Warranty.
Turning center spindles experience conditions that general repair shops are not set up to handle. Radial cutting force, rapid direction reversal, and heat buildup demand a repair process that addresses the whole rotating assembly, not just the bearings.
We repair spindles for CNC vertical turning centers, CNC horizontal turning centers, and multi-axis turning platforms, including machines from Nakamura, Okuma, Mazak, Doosan, Haas, and more.
Our turning center spindle repair services include:
- Spindle evaluation and root cause failure analysis
- Precision OD and ID grinding on our four Kellenberger 1000U cylindrical grinding machines, with tolerances to .00001 inch
- Taper restoration to OEM specification
- Drawbar diagnostics and rebuilding, including retention force testing
- Dynamic balancing of the complete rotating assembly
- Bearing replacement and preload adjustment
- Contamination and wear assessment
We’ve seen a lot of spindles in our 45+ years of spindle rebuilding, and a lot of spindle issues — often avoidable ones. Along with a detailed report for every repair, we can recommend proper maintenance, routine checks, and preventive measures that could extend the life of your spindle and help you avoid costly downtime.
As part of our ongoing customer relationships, we offer spindle care seminars, vibration analysis, contamination prevention analysis, cause of failure tracking, spindle upgrades, and much more.
When you choose Northland Tool for your turning center spindle repair, you’re guaranteed fast turnaround times, exceptional customer service, and decades of experience with precision spindle systems. We offer competitive pricing, so you can be confident you’re receiving expert service at a reasonable cost without the lead times and overhead of going back to the OEM.
Thanks to our knowledgeable team and in-house grinding department, we rarely need to rely on outside vendors. We control every phase of the repair process at our facilities in Weare, New Hampshire and Belgium, Wisconsin, where we’ve earned the trust of manufacturing partners including Lockheed Martin, The Triumph Group, and General Dynamics.
Every turning center spindle we repair or rebuild is backed by our 1-Year Warranty covering both parts and workmanship. Coverage begins the day your repaired spindle ships from Northland Tool and lasts for 12 months. If any part proves defective under normal use, or if any workmanship falls short, we’ll replace or correct it at no cost to you.

What causes turning center spindle failure?
Turning center spindle failure can be caused by bearing wear from constant load reversal, contamination entering through worn seals, or drawbar force dropping below the level needed to secure the toolholder. Thermal cycling from sustained cutting and shaft damage from a crash also shorten spindle life. Most failures develop gradually rather than all at once.
How long does a turning center spindle repair take?
Turning center repair turnaround depends on the extent of the damage and parts availability. Northland Tool also offers expedited and emergency repair service for spindles that cannot wait for standard turnaround.
What are signs of a failing turning center spindle?
Common warning signs of a failing turning center include excess noise or vibration during cutting, visible runout, poor surface finish on finished parts, reduced tool life, and a spindle that runs hotter than normal. A drop in drawbar holding force often shows up first as chatter or inconsistent part quality before the spindle fails outright.
