Hitachi Seiki CH250 Spindle Repair
The Hitachi Seiki CH250 is a CNC turning center. It comes equipped with a grease lubricated and stator driven spindle capable of running up to 8,000 rpm.

CHALLENGE
When this Hitachi Seiki CH250 spindle arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics we completed a full breakdown and evaluation. We found a few different issues to be addressed. First, the o-ring for the stator was broken and out of position. Second, the front bearing’s grease was washed out. Third, the drawbar ball cam was damaged from use. We then measured the critical dimensions (bearing journals, housing, taper, etc.) and found two unacceptable deviations. It was noted that the front shaft journal and front housing were out of ISO and the front housing had fretting damage.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Hitachi Seiki CH250 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, seals, orings, screws and gripper balls
- Grind, chrome plate and finish grind (GPG) the front housing
- GPG the front shaft journal
- Replace rotary union and drawbar cam tip
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
