Hurco VM Series Spindle Repair
This Hurco VM series spindle is grease lubricated, dual belt driven, and capable of running up to 8,000 rpm.
The interior of this Hurco VM series spindle had coolant contamination throughout. There was no grease left in the #1 front bearing which had a cracked bearing cage. It appeared as if our customer was not taking advantage of the air purge at the nose of the spindle. The collet or gripper fingers were worn, and when the CT40 shaft taper was blued up it had less than 50% tool contact. No other dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.
The following actions were performed on this Hurco VM Series spindle:
- Clean, inspect all dimensions
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
- Replace bellevilles and gripper assembly
- Kiss grind the shaft tooling taper
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
