Hyundai-Kia KV25p Spindle Repair
The Hyundai-Kia KV25p is a drill/tap CNC vertical machining center. It comes fitted with this grease lubricated and coupling driven spindle capable of running up to 10,000 rpm.
Our customer sent in this Hyundai-Kia KV25p spindle in for a drawbar evaluation. The tool retention force was within spec incoming, but the spindle shaft nut was loose and we recommended a full breakdown. Upon completing the disassembly and evaluation, we noted that the bearings had no preload and the front bearing pair was contaminated with coolant. The tooling taper was also very worn with poor tool contact. Lastly, the shaft tail was fretted where the drawbar coupling is located, but we will use as is. No other dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.
The following actions were performed on this Hyundai-Kia KV25p spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Kiss grind the tooling taper
- Replace bearings, gripper balls, o-ring, and assembly screws/washers
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
