Mighty Comet VMC-1000 Spindle Repair
The Mighty Comet VMC-1000 is a CNC vertical machining center. It is fitted with a grease lubricated spindle capable of running up to 4,500 rpm.
We completed a full breakdown and evaluation of this Mighty Comet VMC-1000 spindle. Upon assessment of the spindle we noted that eh bearing grease in the front and rear quad sets were completely flooded with oil. The grease was severely washed out of all bearings. It appeared that eh oil was flooding in from the rear of the spindle, which could be from the transmission reservoir above the spindle. No dimensional deviations were noted on this spindle.
The following actions were performed on this Mighty Comet VMC-1000 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace all bolts and o-rings
- Replace bearings
- Customer need’s to check their machine to see how the oil could be getting in
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
