Mitsui Grinding Spindle Repair
This spindle had been recently rebuilt by someone else before it arrived at NTE. It was running very hot and seizing in our customers machine. The heat was caused by too much grease in the bearings. This condition makes the balls of the bearings “plow” through the grease causing resistance and heat. This heat causes the bearings to expand and eventually the clearance between the balls and raceways disappears. This is when the spindle stops turning. Journal housing fits are all within ISO and the taper runout was <2µ. No dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.
The following actions were performed on this Mitsui Grinding spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
