Sharp SV-2412 Spindle Repair
The Sharp SV-2412 is a high production CNC vertical machining center. It can come equipped with this grease lubricated spindle that is capable of running up to 6,000 RPM.
Our customer sent in this Sharp SV-2412 spindle stating that it had been crashed several times but was not in a crash when it seized. We then completed a full breakdown and evaluation, where we noted that the rear locking nut had seized against the rear cover causing the spindle to seize. The bearings were in good shape and the grease was slightly old but still had life. During our evaluation of the critical dimensions, we recorded that the grippers were worn and the front ID taper had high run out.
The following actions were performed on this Kessler 000.625.138 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bolts, o-rings, bearings, grippers, and bellevilles
- Kiss Grind front ID taper
- Remove the broken bolts in the rear locking nut and chase the threads
- Chase threads on the rear ID shaft nut
After reassembly of all components and adjusting bearing preload, we put the spindle through a rigorous break-in and testing procedure to make sure it passes our final quality inspection.
This spindle passed our final quality inspection and was returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
