Tsugami FMA3 Spindle Bearing Failure



CHALLENGE

Possible cause of failure: #1 front bearing failure from coolant contamination. #3 bearing ball cage is melted & broken, possibly from particulate contamination. Shaft taper is pock-marked. Shaft rear roller journal is undersized -5/-6µ (ISO is +2/+10µ) #1 and #3 oil injectors are damaged, rear mounting tabs are broken off.

SOLUTION

Recommended action: Clean, inspect overall dimensions. Kiss grind shaft taper. Grind, plate & finish grind shaft rear roller journal. Replace bearings, #1 and #3 oil injectors, o-rings & screws. Adjust preload, balance, assemble and break in. Final quality control inspection.
