Yama Seiki BM-1020 Spindle Repair
The Yama Seiki BM-1020 is a CNC vertical machining center. It can come equipped with a grease lubricated and belt driven spindle capable of running up to 10,000 rpm.
When this Yama Seiki BM-1020 spindle had bearings that were noisy and felt clunky when rotated by hand in assembly incoming. After a thorough breakdown and evaluation, we noted that the #1 and #2 front bearings suffered a catastrophic failure, the cages were destroyed. The rear bearing pair still contained discolored grease and both felt worn when rotated. No significant dimensional deviations were noted (tooling taper ID, bearing journals/shoulders, housing bores) for this repair.
The following actions were performed on this Yama Seiki BM-1020 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace all bearings, bellevilles, o-rings, and assembly screws
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
