Yama Seiki BM-2100 Spindle Repair
The Yama Seiki BM-2100 is a high production CNC vertical machining center. It can come equipped with a grease lubricated and gear driven spindle capable of running up to 6,000 rpm.

CHALLENGE
This Yama Seiki BM-2100 spindle was seized when it arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics. Upon disassembly and evaluation, we noted that the grease in all the bearings had been washed out by coolant. The front bearing pair suffered a catastrophic failure, the cages were destroyed. Lastly, the coolant inlet of the rotary union had damaged threads. No significant dimensional deviations were noted (tooling taper, bearing journals/shoulders, housing bores) for this repair.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Yama Seiki BM-2100 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace full bearing complement, bellevilles, rotary union, o-rings, and assembly screws
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
