Anca RX7 Spindle Repair
The Anca RX7 is a tool grinding machine that falls in between the RGX and the TX7. It is also the most popluar Anca grinding machine on the market. The spindle repaired here is grease lubricated, stator driven, and capable of running up to 4,500 RPM.
CHALLENGE
When this Anca RX7 spindle arrived at Northland Tool we noted that it rotated freely and the bearings felt okay when spun by hand. We then decided to test run the spindle to determine if the bearings were still healthy or not. Using our state of the art testing equipment, we were able to test run the spindle up to full speed. At the maximum RPM we noted that the rear bearings were failing due the high acceleration we measured with vibration analysis equipment. After fully disassembling the spindle we reported that coolant had gotten into the spindle and contaminated the front and rear bearings. During our critical surface evaluations, we found that the Inpro seals had contamination in them that lapped them out of specification so they will need to be replaced.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Anca RX7 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bolts, bearings, and o-rings
- Replace Inpro seals
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
