The Anca TG7 is a CNC tool grinding machine made for high production tool making and cutting.
CHALLENGE
Our customer contacted us to find out how to coordinate his spindle repair to minimize his machine downtime. We scheduled a slot in our production schedule that fit our customers best time to have the spindle removed. This Anca spindle failed from coolant contamination so we worked with our customer to determine if the air purge in the machine was operating and that it was set to the proper specifications. This will help decrease the possibility of further failure from contamination and increase the spindles lifespan significantly. Upon inspection of the spindle, it was found that both sets of bearings were full of contamination and the grease was extremely washed out. The front shaft nut spanner holes were worn and will need to be addressed.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Anca TG7 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions.
- Replace bearings.
- Rework front nut spanner holes.
- Add air purge to the front cover to help prevent contamination & loss of lubrication.
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
