Fanuc Robodrill A-T21iFL Spindle Repair
The Fanuc Robodrill Alpha-T21iFL is a compact vertical machining center with a 14.5HP spindle motor and a BT-30 taper. Used for high-precision, high-efficiency machining, it comes equipped with a high-speed (10,000 RPM) spindle.
The customer called in and stated that the spindle had suffered a side impact causing runout on the tool and decided to send it in for evaluation. When the spindle arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics, it spun freely by hand but felt slightly sluggish. After disassembly, it was found that the spindle has been fully contaminated with coolant. All four bearings had the grease washed out and the housing had coolant throughout. There were no dimensional deviations found on any critical surfaces (bearing journals, bearing shoulders, or taper).
The following actions were performed on this Fanuc Robodrill Alpha-T21iFL spindle:
- Clean all parts of the spindle
- Replace all bolts and o-rings
- Replace bearings
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
