This Gamfior H12 spindle is out of a Cincinnati #2 Cinternal grinding machine. It is grease lubricated, stator driven, and capable of running up to 12,000 RPM.
CHALLENGE
This Gamfior H12 spindle rotated freely when it arrived at Northland Tool, but the bearings felt worn when the spindle was spun by hand. After disassembling the spindle, we discovered that the front bearings had catastrophically failed and the bearing ball cages were split in half in the #1 and #2 bearings. The ball cage was not in the correct position as well. Lastly, the front ID pilot was bell mouthed and will need grinding work. There were no other dimensional deviations noted and the motor field and coolant jacket pass all incoming testing.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Gamfior H12 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, bolts, and o-rings
- Grind, plate, grind (GPG) the ID pilot
- Kiss grind the pilot face
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
