Kitamura HX400I Spindle Repair

During the installation process of this particular Kitamura spindle it is necessary to remove some of the rotating components from the rear of the spindle. We clearly mark their orientation before shipment so there is little possibility of reinstalling them in the wrong orientation.

CHALLENGE

This Kitamura HX400I spindle had been crashed and the front bearings were noisy when rotated. The shaft taper was cracked on both sides where the drive dogs bolt on and the drive dogs were also damaged. We also noted that the o-rings were severely worn. No dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.

SOLUTION

The following actions were performed on this Kitamura HX400I spindle:

Clean, inspect overall dimensions.
Replace bearings, o-rings, shaft, drive dogs, and assembly screws

RESULT

After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
