Mitsubishi M-V5B Spindle Repair
The Mitsubishi M-V5B is a compact CNC vertical machining center capable of running up to 8,000 rpm.
This Mitsubishi M-V5B spindle was completely disassembled and evaluated when it arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics. Upon inspection we noted that the bearings were washed out with coolant. The gripper fingers and bellevilles were both worn and the drive dogs were damaged. We then measured the critical dimensions (bearing journals, housing, taper, etc.) and we found a couple of issues. First, the rear straight bore roller journal had 10 microns runout and was egged +4/-10(iso is +2/+10). Second, the taper was severely worn. Lastly, we were missing the front housing cover.
The following actions were performed on this Mitsubishi M-V5B spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, o-rings, bellvilles, and grippers
- Grind, plate, and finish grind the 55mm rear straight bore roller journal
- Weld and machine drive dogs to repair damage
- Kiss grind the 40 shaft taper(cat tooling was supplied)
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
