The Takisawa MAC-V1E is a grease lubricated and pulley driven spindle that is capable of running up to 6,000 rpm.
CHALLENGE
This Takisawa MAC-V1E spindle was seized incoming. Upon closer inspection, we noted that the drive dogs, drawbar assembly, and drive pulley were not provided. After a full breakdown and evaluation, it was found that the bearings had failed from contamination. The grease was severely degraded throughout, more so in the front pair than the others. It also appeared as if a tool had spun in the taper, the tooling taper ID was heavily damaged. Lastly, the 90mm housing bores were egged: front was -3/+23µ, rear was -5/+6µ (ISO is ±7.5µ).
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Takisawa MAC-V1E spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Grind, chrome plate, and finish grind (GPG) the tooling taper ID
- GPG the front and rear 90mm housing bores
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
