The DMG Mori DMC 1035 V Ecoline is a high production and very modern CNC vertical machining center. It can come fitted with this grease lubricated and coupling driven spindle capable of running up to 8,000 rpm.
CHALLENGE
This DMG Mori DMC 1035 V Ecoline spindle was sent in with the customer stating that the spindle was making excessive noise. When it arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics, the spindle was very noisy when spun by hand so we performed a full breakdown and evaluation. First, we noted that the actuator functioned properly incoming and both proximity sensors passed incoming testing. After completing the disassembly and evaluation, we found that the #1 and #2 bearings showed signs of a dark particulate contamination. They both separated during disassembly. The #3 and #4 bearings felt slightly worn when spun by hand out of assembly. Lastly, the drawbar post showed signs of wear on critical surfaces. There were no dimensional deviations to note for this repair.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this DMG Mori DMC 1035 V Ecoline spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions.
- Replace bearings, bolts, and o-rings
- Replace force multiplier balls, gripper post, and complete gripper assembly
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
