DMG MORI NLX 2500 Spindle Repair

The DMG MORI NLX 2500 is a CNC high production turning center. It comes equipped with a grease lubricated and stator driven spindle capable of running up to 6,000 rpm.

CHALLENGE

Our customer sent us this DMG MORI NLX 2500 spindle and indicated that the spindle had been bumped. The bearings were very noisy when rotated by hand incoming. Upon disassembly, it was noted that the #1 front bearing feels brinelled, no evidence of any contamination or wear debris. The #2 front bearing and rear roller were in good condition. No dimensional deviations were found (tooling ID/OD, housing bores, shaft bearing journals, and shoulders). The customer’s tooling adapter plate had ID/OD runout, possible mounting issue as shaft dimensions are good.

SOLUTION

The following actions were performed on this DMG MORI NLX 2500 spindle:

Clean, inspect overall dimensions
Replace all bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws

RESULT

After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
