Mitsubishi M-H4B Spindle Repair
The Mitsubishi M-H4B is a large CNC horizontal machining center with a pallet changer built in to the machine. It can come equipped with this oil mist lubricated and stator driven spindle capable of running up to 12,000 rpm.
This Mitsubishi M-H4B was sent in to Northland Tool and Electronics for a complete breakdown and evaluation. After close inspection, we found that the bearings failed from severe contamination. The encoder ring was damaged and the front housing was over-sized and fretted. Lastly, the taper and rear bearing journal were both out of ISO and will need to be ground. No other dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.
The following actions were performed on this Mitsubishi M-H4B spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
- Grind, chrome plate, and finish grind (GPG) the shaft journal
- GPG the front housing and tooling taper
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
