This Royal spindle is out of a Fryer CNC machine. It is grease lubricated, belt driven, and capable of running up to 8,000 rpm.
CHALLENGE
This Royal spindle spun very rough when turned by hand incoming. After completing a full breakdown and evaluation, we found that the #1 and #2 bearings had catastrophically failed. The cages were destroyed and they were full of liquid contamination. The rear bearings were heavily contaminated with particles from the front bearings. Lastly, the ID taper had high run out (10µ) and almost no tool contact. No other dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Royal spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, bolts, o-rings, and bellevilles
- Grind, chrome plate, and finish grind (GPG) the ID taper
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
