This customer has had issues in the past with a different spindle rebuilder claiming to have the ability to rebuild this type of spindle. When they received the spindle back from that vendor they found that the taper contact was not correct and it gave them excessive run out in their wheel.
Northland Tool & Electronics in house grinding department has the correct gaging and grinding skill to guarantee the quality of this type of repair. Our final quality control process will only allow spindles that meet the highest specifications to leave our facility.
CHALLENGE
This GMN TS70X115 spindle arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics where we completed a full breakdown and evaluation of the spindle. Upon closer inspection, we found that the bearings in the front and rear of the spindle were severely contaminated. The rear housing was egged and tapered -3/+10 and the tapers had some ding marks in them. No other dimensional deviations were noted for the repair.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this GMN TS70X115 spindle:
- Cleaned and inspected overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
- Kiss ground shaft tapers and shoulders
- Repaired housing nut spanner holes
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
