The GMN TSEV-100SDU is an electric driven and grease lubricated grinding spindle capable of running up to 5,000 rpm.
CHALLENGE
This GMN TSEV-100SDU spindle arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics where we completed a full breakdown and evaluation. Upon disassembling the spindle, we found that the #1 and #2 front bearings were worn. The critical dimensions (bearing journals, taper, housing, etc.) were then measured and we found a couple issues. First, the taper had 12-14 microns runout. Second, the face had 6 microns runout. Because of the issues that we found after evaluation, we believe the spindle may have been crashed.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this GMN TSEV-100SDU spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions.
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
- Replace grippers
- Grind, chrome plate, and finish grind the HSK 40 taper
- Kiss grind the face
- Manufacture a new brass nose ring
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
