This GMN TSAV 160X306 spindle was sent to us by an aerospace company that holds extremely tight tolerances on their finished parts. They were experiencing issues with finished part quality and decided to send their spindle in for evaluation.
CHALLENGE
When this GMN TSAV 160X306 arrived at Northland Tool and Electronics where we performed a full breakdown and evaluation. Upon inspection we found that the front and rear bearings were contaminated. The critical dimensions (bearing journals, housing, taper, etc.) were measured. We found that the froun housing was +15 microns oversized and the front journal was egged. No other dimensional deviations were found.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this GMN TSAV 160X306 spindle:
- Clean all parts of the spindle
- Replace bearings and seals
- Grind, chrome plate, and finish grind (GPG) the front housing
- GPG the front journal
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
