The Hardinge Talent 8/52 is a compact CNC turning center. It comes fitted with a grease lubricated and belt driven spindle capable of running up to 5,000 rpm.
CHALLENGE
This Hardinge Talent 8/52 spindle arrive to Northland Tool and Electronics completely seized and the drive pulley had been removed from the spindle shaft. After disassembling the spindle, we found that the spindle housing was full of rust and contamination. The rear roller bearing had failed from heavy contamination and the grease in the front roller and bearing pair was contaminated/degraded. All three bearings felt rough when rotated by hand. No significant dimensional deviations were noted for this repair.
SOLUTION
The following actions were performed on this Hardinge Talent 8/52 spindle:
- Clean, inspect overall dimensions
- Replace bearings, o-rings, and assembly screws
RESULT
After reassembly of all components, adjusting bearing preload, and undergoing break-in and testing procedures, this spindle passed our final quality inspection before being returned to our customer with a 1-year warranty.
